Eugene Island 330

The third project that CU-Boulder has supported is the GBRN DOE-Eugene Island 330 drilling program. Discovered in the early 1970's, the Eugene Island-330 field is the largest field in the northern Gulf of Mexico. The field has now produced more than 100% of its original estimated oil reserves. As part of the development of the field, a research/production well was drilled during fall 1993 testing a new concept of migrating fluids into this field. CU's role in this project was to do regional stratigraphic and structural studies in the area to help determine when petroleum migration into the field may have began. This project has received lots of attention in the national press (CNN, AAPG Explorer, May 1994). We received $180,000 in grant money and $300,000 in software donations (Landmark Graphics, AVS, and HyperMedia).
